Jocs Taronja '09

On March 2004, the Grup d'Esplai Esportiu Samarucs València assembled six volleyball teams in our city to participate in the first international sport meeting for gays, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals celebrated in the Valencian Community. More than 90 sportsmen came from Barcelona, Madrid, London, Milan, Brussels and Paris to enjoy with our team in an intense competition day. Three unforgettable days that served to make an important act of visibility and normalization of LGTB+ groups, using the sport as a way to appearing to the society.

The great success achieved in the celebration of that first international encounter animated us to organize one second edition of the Jocs Taronja in March of 2006, this time with the participation of the swimming section. 12 volleyball teams and around 90 swimmers took part on that edition of the Jocs Taronja. Altogether 300 people were involved between organizers, sportsmen, judges, partners, collaborators and supporters who enjoyed those days of coexistence.

At the moment, we are organizing the third edition of the Jocs Taronja for 27th and 28th of February and 1st of March of 2009. The presence of more than 250 sportsmen of different states and European clubs is expected. They will participate in the volleyball and swimming competitions. Both competitions will be developed on Saturday 28th of February in the Nazaret sport facilities, ruled by the Municipal Sport Foundation and yielded by the Valencia City Council. They will be observed by referees and judges of the Valencian Volleyball and Swimming Federations. For the development of these competitions, Samarucs València counts on the support of the Valencian Volleyball Federation, the Valencian Swimming Federation and the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation.

The Jocs Taronja is the International Sport Tournament that the Club Esportiu LGTB+ Samarucs València organizes. Our Club gives the chance to lesbian, gays, transsexuals, bisexuals and heterosexuals (that is, LGTB+) of practicing sport on a distended form with the integration and nondiscrimination principles. This event is characterized by the sportsmanship, the plurality and the respect between the people with independence of its sexual orientation.

Friday, 27th February
Registration and opening ceremony

Remarks: at 8 pm it will take place the opening ceremony of Jocs Taronja 2009, event which will include a contemporary dance and music performance and an homage to the 40 years already passed since the Stonewall riots   (New York, 1969).

Remarks: those who would like to can go, just after the brunch, to Plaza del Ayuntamiento, in order to see the first mascletà of Fallas 2009.

Samarucs València can place you with local hosts. If you want to be hosted by a samarucs member or a collaborator, choose this option in the registration form.

The accommodation in private houses includes only 27 and 28 February (friday and saturday nights). If you are planning to stay more nights, please check it with your host in advance.

We will arrange accommodations by payment order.

You can register on the 'Sign-up' pageaccessible from the main menu.
Once there, you have to fill the forms consecutively and verify at the end that the introduced information is correct.  

It is especially important that the given e-mail is accurate. Once you press on Finish, an e-mail will be sent to you to this given address, and it will be necessary that you follow the link attached (start by http://jocstaronja.samarucs.org/ConfirmEmail.aspx?...), so we can verify that we have the proper address.  

Once registered you cannot change your information. In case you find some mistake, please contact us through the Contact page.  

After having confirmed your e-mail address, you will be able to access the Visitors' Area, introducing on the left side of the page your e-mail address and the password you have chosen during the registration process.  

In the Visitors' Area you can register for the individual events. Remember that you can only register for three individual events in swimming.  

In order to register for the team events (Volleyball tournament, swimming relays), there should be a captain who will be on charge of them. If you want to create a new team, you have to contact us so that we can activate the corresponding options in the menu. Once you have done this, you will have access to the management of teams, where you will be able to create new teams (linked to the club to which you belong), or add participants to your team. If you want to eliminate a team, change the club to which your team belongs or you have any doubt, please contact us. 

The cost of the inscription for non-competitors is 35 EUR, and it includes the Saturday dinner, the party and the Sunday brunch.  

The inscription for athletes is 25 EUR. Optionally, you can add to your inscription the Saturday dinner (20 EUR), the party (10 EUR) and the Sunday brunch (5 EUR). Price will rise to 70 EUR from 31st January.

This is the third edition of the Jocs Taronja and the second time that it has organized a swimming competition within the framework of the programmed activities. The organization committee and, in particular, the SAMARUCS swimming team of València are putting great efforts into the organization of this event that, we hope, you will enjoy.

• 09:30 - Opening of the swimming pool and warming-up.
• 10:00 - Beginning of the competition.
• 14:00 - Estimated end time.

The competition will follow the official rules of FINA (www.fina.org) and the Valencian Federation of Swimming.

The categories are as follows:

• Premasters: from 18 to 24 years old.
• Masters: from 25 to 29, from 30 to 34, from 35 to 39… years old.
• Relays: less than 99 years, from 100 to 119, from 120 to 159, from 160 to 199, from 200 to 239 and more than 240.

There will be, in addition, an overall team classification that will be decided by the points achieved by the swimmers according to the results of each one of the events and categories. The points will be allotted as follows:

- Individual events: The first eight (8) finishers in the individual events will get points for their teams as follows:
First place: 19 points.
Second place: 16 points.
Third place: 14 points.
Fourth place: 13 points.
Fifth place: 11 points.
Sixth place: 10 points.
Seventh place: 9 points.
Eighth place: 8 points.

 

- Relays: The first eight (8) finishers in the relay events will get points for their teams as follows:
First place: 38 points.
Second place: 32 points.
Third place: 28 points.
Fourth place: 26 points.
Fifth place: 24 points.
Sixth place: 22 points.
Seventh place: 20 points.
Eighth place: 18 points.

1. The swimming competition of the Jocs Taronja is a sport event open to all people of legal age (18) without distinction by race, sex, nationality, belief or sexual orientation.
2. The maximum number of events in which a swimmer can participate is three (3), plus the relays.
3. The swimming pool where the competition will be held is a 25 metre indoor pool with six lanes.
4. The time taking will be manual.
5. Each swimmer will be responsible for getting themselves to the start on time. There will be only one call made for each race. Any swimmer who is not in their position at the start of the race will be marked as “Did Not Start” (DNS).
6. In Spain the use of the bathing cap is mandatory, so do not forget to bring yours. Without it you will not be able to compete.
7. The start lists will be based on the times provided by you at the moment of registration.
8. There will not be finals, as every event is held as a final. Swimmers with a false start will be disqualified. They will be able to complete the event, but they will get no time.
9. We will use the German method. This means that you will have to stay in the water until the next heat has started.
10. The final results will be based on the times registered in the competition. There will be medals for the three best times of each event and in each category.
11. A team classification will be made; the first three teams will obtain a trophy/medal.
12. The results will be posted soon after the finish of the respective competition event.
13. Medals must be picked up at the Medals Table after the final results of the respective events are posted.  Medals will not be sent by post after the tournament ends. The relay and team medals will be given at the dinner.

14. Neither changes nor substitutions will be allowed on the day of the competition.

Depending on the number of participants we will end with a 10*50m free relay (this relay will not score in the team classification, as there is the chance of relay teams comprising of swimmers from different teams).

Volleyball is the sport which led to Samarucs València putting on his first international competition in 2004.

In the Jocs Taronja 2009, a total of eight (8) volleyball teams will be able to participate, with a maximum of nine (9) players in each team.

The teams will take part in a draw in order to be divided into two groups of four. In both groups, each team will play versus all the others, with each set lasting 30 minutes. The games will be refereed by a member of a team from the other group and there will be the possibility of one time-out for each team. 10 minutes of break and/or warming up will be allowed before the beginning of each game.

The fixtures of the first phase of the competition will be published before the tournament; they will be played on Saturday morning, 28th of February 2009.

The second phase will be played after an interval (approximately at 3pm) with a system of 1 set up to 25 points (maximum 28) and with each team allowed one time-out for.

The games to determine the 3rd-8th places will be played under the same system. Only the final, which will be disputed at the end, will be played as the best of three sets, the first two of up to 25 points (28 maximum), and the decisive game, if there is one, will be played up to 15 points (no limit).

We will consider official the registration of each team which have sent the relevant information and have paid, giving a month from the date of inscription to finalize the payment. If this doesn't happen, the team will lose the permission to take part in the tournament and will have to give up their place to the next team on the waiting list.
